Fred Binney

Binny started off his playing career with Torquay United in 1966 and became a permanent fixture in the starting line up during the 1968 – 1969 season. He moved to Exeter City during the 1969 – 1970 season and was most notable at the club for scoring a staggering 28 goals in the 1972 – 1973 campaign. In October 1977, Binney signed for Plymouth Argyle and his second season at the club, the 1978 – 1979 campaign was a huge triumph as the player scored 28 goals and was named as the clubs player of the year. In total, he scored 3 9 goals in 71 appearances for Argyle, averaging more than one gaol in every two matches.

Paul Mariner

Mariner signed for Plymouth Argyle in 1973 and went on to make 135 appearances for the Devon club and score 56 goals. He moved to Ipswich Town in 1976 for £220,000 and went on to help Ipswich win the UEFA Cup in 1981, scoring in the final and helped Town win the league title in 1978. He has also made a number of appearances for England and was a part of their 1982 world cup squad.

Billy Rafferty

Rafferty was arguably Plymouth’s finest player during the mid 1970’s at the club. He spent a total of three years playing for Argyle between 1974 and 1976 and in his 100 appearances for the club, he scored 40 goals. He was a real favourite with the supporters while playing for the club.
